ASHLAND, Ky. – Ashland Rotary Club is the latest civic club to donate to the Amy For Africa / Samaritan’s Shoe project.

Rotary Club president Jay Whitlatch presented Amy Compston a check for $250 on Monday at the club’s weekly meeting. Several clubs in the area have been involved with the organization including the East Greenup Kiwanis Club, Ashland’s Noon Kiwanis Club and Ashland’s Breakfast Kiwanis Club.

The clubs have donated more than $1,000 combined to the AFA project.

“We truly appreciate the support we’ve been given by this civic organizations,” Compston said. “They are making a difference in the little villages in Moyo and in the community here. Our giving community has been so generous to our efforts.”

Compston and AFA co-founder Mark Maynard both live and work in Ashland. Compston is a case management nurse at King’s Daughters and Maynard is the editor of The Independent. Amy For Africa started in May 2013 and has partnered with United Christian Expeditions in Moyo, Uganda.

AFA will be taking an 11-member team to Moyo from May 17 to June 2 to put 26,000 shoes on children in the region.
