ASHLAND, Ky. – Team Amy For Africa starts with family.
The biggest supporters of the ministry have always been Amy Compston’s family and that’s also where some of the committed runners with Team AFA have come.
Danielle Wesolowski fits that mold perfectly. She is married to Amy’s brother, Andy, and has been a supporter of the AFA mission since it started a year ago.
Now she is also running for the organization.
“I am very excited to be running for team AFA,” she said. “I have seen this mission start small and grow into something amazing. To be able to help these children, to feed them and to teach them about the Lord, is something I want to be part of.
“What a blessing!”
Danielle is a mother of three and works fulltime with Kentucky Orthopedic in Winchester.
She is also an accomplished runner who most recently finished second in her age division in the half marathon at the 15th annual Hatfield & McCoy Marathon on June 14.
Danielle has also completed the Dayton Air Force Half Marathon and is making plans to run in the Dayton Air Force Full Marathon in September.
She started running a few years ago as a way to lose some weight and get into better shape. But she ended up finding another passion in her life and escape from the daily grind.
“Now I run because it’s my time to get away from it all,” she said.
She turned in a strong performance in the Hatfield & McCoy race, finishing with the 13th best time among 118 females in a time of 2:05:25. It was a PR for Danielle, who was 35th out of 187 runners overall.
