Drew Vazquez, 11, is one of Team AFA’s youngest runners.
ASHLAND, Ky. – You don’t have to be this tall or this old to be part of Team Amy For Africa.
All you need is a willing heart.
Meet Drew Vazquez, at 11 years old he is the second-youngest runner on Team AFA.
Drew, who lives in the Chicago area, has some good bloodlines when it comes to running and all-around athletic ability. His mother, Traci Vazquez, has competed in several triathlons.
She’s an older sister of AFA’s Amy Compston.
Drew wanted to run for AFA “because I want to be able to help the kids in Africa see that they have a Creator who cares about them, even when life is hard.”
Drew’s family has been big supporters of the Amy For Africa mission since its inception. They have traveled to Boston and Nashville to watch Amy compete.
Now Drew is ready to do something with his running ability.
“I really enjoy running and have worked my way up to running six miles in one run,” he said.
The idea of running and also helping others gives him reason to smile.
“I am excited to be used by our Creator to help others see Him,” he said. “Hebrews 13:5 says, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.”
God doesn’t put an age limit on when somebody can do something for Him. That’s clearly how Drew was thinking when he committed to running for his aunt’s organization even though it’s eight hours away.
