WILLIAMSON, W.Va. – Amy For Africa made its presence felt at the 15th annual Hatfield & McCoy Marathon on Saturday.
Even the feuding families had to be proud of the effort.
Three runners – marathoners Chris and Amy Compston and half-marathoner Danielle Wesolowski – were among the stars.
Chris Compston ran his first sub-4 hour marathon, finishing in 3:59.09. He was 58th out of 506 marathoners who participated.
Amy Compston ran 3:31.36, a time that placed her third among all female runners. She was 16th overall among the 506 (male and female).
Wesolowski, one of 15 Team AFA runners, ran a PR of 2:05.25. She was 35th out of 186 half-marathoner runners.
Besides the three runners, 19 other members of Team AFA – all wearing AFA gear – were busy passing out nearly 600 gospel tracts and telling anyone who asked about the mission. One church in Matewan, W.Va., wanted to schedule Amy to speak in September.
This was the third marathon of the running season for Amy and the second for Chris. The couple’s next marathon will be in Livingston, Tenn., in mid-July.
By the end of the running season in November, they will have run 14 marathons combined (eight from Amy and six from Chris).
