ASHLAND, Ky. – Young or old, it doesn’t matter. Team Amy For Africa takes all-comers to run for the organization.
One of our youngest runners to commit to participating is Marcus Wesolowski, who will turn 13 on June 18.
Marcus has some running in his blood. He is a nephew to AFA co-founder Amy Compston, who is the face behind the mission effort.
Marcus’s father, Andy, and Amy are brother and sister.
Marcus is not just a runner. He’s a talented young man with a bright athletic future in front of him.
“I love to play basketball and football,” he said, “and, I guess now, I like running.”
Marcus will be an eighth-grader at Wurtland Middle School in the fall but he’s looking forward to running for AFA. He has even signed up for the 5K the weekend of the New York City Marathon.
He may well part of the future of AFA but he felt compelled to start young.
“The reason I chose to join AFA is because I want to support the children and families that are suffering in Africa,” he said.
How’s that for a mature young man who has his priorities in order?
