Chicago marathon next step for AFA duo

erie29 erie60CHICAGO – Two huge marathons will finish the running season for Amy For Africa runners Amy and Chris Compston.

The husband-wife duo will be running in Chicago on Sunday in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon – the third-largest marathon in the world.

It will be the seventh marathon since April for Amy, who started back in April with her second Boston Marathon.

Chris started his marathons in May when the couple began running one a month. The Chicago Marathon will be the sixth and last of the running season for Chris, who has improved with each marathon he has run this season.

Amy runs again the first weekend in November in the New York City Marathon. That will be No. 8 and the third world marathon of the year. The big five of the World Marathon Series includes Chicago, New York and Boston.

Chicago is one of the fastest-growing marathons in the world. They have gone from 4,200 runners in 1977 to more than 45,000 runners for this year’s event.

AFA runner Jennifer Mault will also be competing in Chicago.

Chris received good news this week when he learned his broken finger will not require surgery.
