NEW YORK – New York was introduced to Amy For Africa.
Marathoner Amy Compston was among the top 10 percent of all finishers in the 2014 New York City Marathon on Sunday in blustery conditions.
She finished in a time of 3:33.22, placing her at 5,061 out of 50,640 finishers.
Runners were rudely greeted with wind gusts of 38-45 mph. Television announcers said runners faced a head wind or crosswind for the first 20 to 20.5 miles.
But nothing slowed Amy. She was in the top 4 percent of her 30-34 age group. Amy was 736th overall in women and 169th in her age group.
This was the eighth marathon in eight months and the third world marathon for Compston, who started the trek in Boston back in April. She also competed in Chicago last month.
Amy’s husband, Chris, ran six marathons with her in Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Chicago and Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, the Amy For Africa organization continued fundraising to the tune of $35,000 since May. The 17-month total stands at more than $91,000 for missions in Moyo, Uganda.
