GREENUP, Ky. – The Samaritan’s Feet Shoes of Hope 5K will be March 21 at the Greenup Community Park.
The mostly flat course that runs along the Ohio River will be a good eye-opener for new and veteran runners alike who are rounding into shape for the running season. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the race starting at 9. The race starts and ends at the community park.
Cost is $15 if pre-registered before March 20 and $20 on race day. Pre-registered groups of eight or more can register for $12 each. Race shirts are guaranteed to first 150 registered
O Such Tri-State Race Planners, under the direction of Alan Osuch, is organizing the race in conjunction with Amy For Africa.
Amy For Africa is partnering with Samaritan’s Feet to put 26,000 shoes on children in Moyo, Uganda in May. Both AFA and Samaritan’s Feet are 501 3(c) organizations. Proceeds generated from the race will go toward purchasing shoes and paying expenses in the AFA Shoes of Hope project May 18-31 in Moyo.
Samaritan’s Feet, based out of Charlotte, N.C., has a goal of putting 10 million shoes on 10 million children in 10 years. They partner with organizations, like AFA, who are already in remote areas throughout the world. The Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA and the University of Kentucky basketball program under John Calipari are supporters of Samaritan’s Feet.
